Rabies Warning Issued In Methuen, Mass.

METHUEN, MA -- Officials in Methuen, Mass., have issued a warning after a golden retriever mix tested positive for rabies.
The dog, known as Chewy, was at the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals from April 7-15. Officials there said that wasn't long enough for any symptoms to be noticed.
Once in his new home, he bit his new owner with a rabid bite, officials said.
The dog's rabies vaccination apparently failed.
Shelter officials asked anyone who had contact with Chewy or another pet at the shelter to be examined.
