ST PETERSBURG, Florida (AP) -- A woman and her roommate were charged with starving the woman's 9-year-old daughter, who weighed just 42 pounds when she was found, was locked up all day and was forced to wear a filthy diaper, authorities said.
How could you possibly justify this behavior?

Re: Saddest/weirdest story I've read in a long time :(
I will never understand people who can be so cruel. Especially to children. Jail is not enough punishment for them.
Re: Saddest/weirdest story I've read in a long time :(
That is Florida for you.

Re: Saddest/weirdest story I've read in a long time :(
Wasn't sure where to put this story but it's a very good one!
Roxbury MA (AP) - A seven-year-old boy was at the center of a
Boston courtroom drama yesterday when he challenged a court ruling
over who should have custody of him. The boy has a history of being
beaten by his
parents and the judge initially awarded custody to his aunt, in
keeping with child custody law and regulations requiring that family
unity be maintained to the degree possible.
The boy surprised the court when he proclaimed that his aunt beat
him more
than his parents and he adamantly refused to live with her. When the
judge then suggested that he live with his grandparents, the boy
cried out that they also beat him.
After considering the remainder of the immediate family and learning
that
domestic violence was apparently a way of life among them, the judge
took
the unprecedented step of allowing the boy to propose who should
have
custody of him. After two recesses to check legal references and
confer
with chi! ld welf are officials, the judge granted temporary custody
to the
Boston Red Sox, whom the boy firmly believes are not capable of
beating
anyone.

What the heck's going on in FL lately:

JACKSONVILLE, Florida (AP) - A man has been charged with torturing his 9-year-old son by keeping him locked in a bedroom for much of the past three years, with a surveillance camera tracking his every move, authorities said Thursday.
The home of Randall Warren Piercy, 41, was like a prison that had cameras in almost every room, with the father monitoring the boy on television and computer screens, Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Lt. Annie Smith said. Police did not say the child was beaten, but he was apparently thrilled to be removed from the home, she said.
During the past three years, the boy has not attended school, received medical attention or had contact with people outside his family, Smith said. The police report, however, said he was home schooled, although it said he could not read children's books.
Relatives told police that the boy was usually allowed to use the bathroom once a day because his father was teaching him to control his body.
