I'm, not a professional musician, not a writer, and not a homeless person living off donated breuggers bagels. Most people thought I would be something "creative" (I was nominated for most talented, most musical, and class storyteller - I won none of them lol).
Other than that, I am almost the same. Except that Im now a latina woman with 3 ears and an ant's thorax. Nothing surprising there.
Mine is similar, Little Miss "I wanna be an actress" decided she wanted to spend her life outdoors instead and actually got a SCIENCE degree! (much shock from those who were ever in lab with me...) Now I get to share my love of nature with kids and teach respect for all living things. It's just the best job on earth (in my opinion anyway.) :D
Plus I get to play with lots of animals (JV--not a WORD). Someday I'll post one of the photos of me holding owls, alligators, snakes, and such.
Well I think most people would have guessed I'd be an inmate somewhere and today I am nowhere near that. I am always volunteering at my kids school. I used to be a bully and now use that to show my kids to stick up for themselves and others. I know it stopped me back then.
When I was in high school I didn't know what I wanted to do when I graduated but I did get a taste of electrical in Mr.Czarnick's (I forget how it's spelled) class and liked it. So that's what I do. I grew up in poverty and now own my own home and live comfortably with my wife, three daughters, and two nephews.
I used to eat, breath, and sweat Bruins...now I eat, breath, and sweat Red Sox. LOL jk I just eat them! LOL Naw I have a life now so I don't watch every game like I used to. Even if I could out here in Michigan.
I have always somewhat respected my elders. Now I always do as well as my peers.
For me I would think that the people who knew me in High School would be surprised to learn that I never finished college. I was very driven to do my best in high school, but once I got to College, I kind of lost that drive. I was going to school for psychology, but decided it wasn't the career path for me. I took some time off to figure out what I wanted to do, and never returned to school full time.
no man, this is bad. but when it bothers me enough i will do something about it. i figure life is short, it may as well be delicious! besides i'm still good looking.
hmmm...not sure too many people really knew me...or if i even knew me... :) I've done alot more with my life than I thought I would...or any teachers thought I would...I actually graduated college with honors (after graduating MHS with a 2.1 GPA and finding our I had issues reading and processing (spelling too haha!) ) I found out after leaving MHS that I really wasn't dumb!

I remember you too from the pit in band. How are ya!?
I am doing good...keeping busy with my new house, work and school. How about you? what have you been up too- I don't think I have seen anyone since I graduated.
Kate...yes i do remember getting some free pizza from pappa G's---oh i bumped into you cousin's ex hubby who i use to babysite for...he tried to hit on me...hahha...it was kids freeky....and i felt old ...seeing how i baby sat his kid when he was 3 months old
He's actually my cousin...that is creepy that he hit on you...I'll have to yell at him the next time I see him! His son (the one you babysat) is like 12 or 13 now. Isn't that crazy??!! My oldest nephew will be 14 in December. I feel so old.
I find it sad that the guidance counselors at MHS were so pessimistic about the student's future. The same thing happened to me that happened to Sarsha111. I remember sitting in that office getting my guidance speech, but when I left the office I felt I had no future.....I did ok in high school, never got lower than a C, but I guess that was that wasn't good enough to get positive reinenforcement from the counselors. Sad, sad, sad. I went to college, and graduated with honors as well, go figure.
Just out of curiosity Nikki, have you ever seen the movie Clerks? I love the scene with the guidance counselor inspecting and breaking all the eggs. Check it out if you haven't seen it. It just about sums it up.

My wife went to school in Manchester NH. While walking through Target in Salem NH one day we saw her guidance counselor in a red vest washing the floor. Tells you something about guidance counselorsââ¬Â¦
The counselors at MHS were terrible. They were so negative about everything. You really did walk out of their offices feeling hopeless. I'm glad to know I wasn't the only one who got that treatment!
My guidance counselor only ever did two good things for me.
1) Talked to Longshore after she gave me a bad grade first term in Honors 9 (then my grade magically rose after that even though I was producing the same quality work)
2) Walked with me to the bus stop when some girl threatened to beat me up
Wow. When I transfered to MHS junior year I went to meet my guidance counselor with my aunt. He saw I was coming from Lawrence High and and before that another high school and had been tossed from both. Even so, I was in ALL honors classes and had a perfect A+ average. He looked at me and literally said "just show up and you will graduate". My aunt, a college professor, was pissed! He even put me in that DE program where you get out early to go to work. So my junior year I spent 3 hours a day in school and only had English, Science and 2 study halls. And I failed those classes because after a month or so I would check in to homeroom and then leave to go to U-Lowell or shopping everyday. And I really thought why bother trying if this guy says I can't make it and to just show up. He was right about just showing up because I was promoted to 12th and even graduated.
We should file a lawsuit. F*cking guidance... PIG'S ASS.
The counselors at MHS were terrible. They were so negative about everything. You really did walk out of their offices feeling hopeless. I'm glad to know I wasn't the only one who got that treatment!
I have to say that Gary Banks ( Special Ed Counselor) was awesome. He was my councelor for 9th grade. When I was in the behavior room. But he remained my friend and I went to him with any problems till I graduated. And he almost always did something to fix them. So not all were bad. Just the mainstream ones were. LOL. I never met my councelor after that. I don't think. Wait maybe I met him once. I think it was Brain? Is that right. What a dick!
I had mr baily ...he sucked...he put me in alg 1 and geomotry at the same time...i had the drunk lady who was never there on mon and fri...next to heller's class....i cried every day because i didn't get anything...soooo i dropped out of geomotry (never got past alg2...i hate math) and took TV prod with hoffman (poor hoffman).
Baily was my driving instructor....once....i told mr baker NEVER AGAIN., the funny thing is that the girl who was driving before me hit hm becasue he kept pulling the wheele from her... i think the GS"s should be required to have been in a career before they get hired... i don't think a college degree cuts it...
Yup... Mr. Bailey was absolutely useless. I don't know if I was the only one he did this to or not, but I remember him asking me to write about myself, so he could write me a recommendation for my UMass-Lowell application. I told him I didn't think it was necessary, and that I could get in without his recommendation... man was he mad.
I too had Bailey for a while and as a driver instructor...Man if he slammed on his brake one more time I was going to scream!!! He is useless and not very "people friendly" at all!
Oh hell, that's easy. People who even BARELY knew me would be surprised that I'm not still living with my parents flipping burgers. Hell, that fact surprises ME sometimes. For the amount of effort I actually put into school or pretty much anything productive at all, I still get surprised looks when people hear what I do for a living.
i'd say that i never thought i would have 3 kids in under 4 years and i certainly didn't think i would get to stay home and not have to work. THAT'S THE BEST PART!!
I hear that about the guidance counselors at MHS, I had Mr. Cullen and he told me not to apply anwhere else than NECC cause I wouldn't get in. Needless to say I graduate from Umass Lowell Magna Cum Laude and had a 4.0 GPA in my major. In your face Mr. Cullen how do ya like me now! And I'm going back to get my master's degree in January. So he was pretty useless. Other than that I have a great job, a husband that puts up with me, a nice house, nice car and hopefully in a few years I'll have a child. :D
hmmm...not sure too many people really knew me...or if i even knew me...
I remember you How's things? And I never thought you were dumb
When I graduated I weighed 165 pounds at 6 foot 1 inch. Thanks to finding a gym and marrying a wonderful woman who can cook I am now 250 (although I'm a bit heavy right now, I'm usually around 225)
Man, the more I hear about other people's experience with their guidance counselors, the more I look forward to getting a degree and being able to make an impact in the HSs to show that not all guidance counselors suck and are unsupportive. :( I know alot of people in my current grad program, and I can say with all confidnce that this school is going to produce some quality cousnelors who really care about what happens to these students.
Back to the topic at hand, I think the only thing that would be surprising to anyone who knew me in HS is that I am not married yet, I don't write poetry, and oh yeah, I have my motorcycle operators license. :)
Maybe it would suprise some that me, the quiet teacher's pet got diagnosed with ADHD... I wish I had been diagnosed before high school (I believe I could have)... maybe I wouldn't have had so many socialization problems in school had I gotten some help and support. Maybe I wouldn't have been as weird.
maybe I would have finshed college. (surprise anyone that I gave up after a year?)
Maybe it would surprise some that I got married... to a man.
Is there something about you that's drastically different or something in your life that has changed completely since you graduated? Post it here!!
Very good topic Kate....
Yes I would say people would be suprised if they knew me now compared to what I was back then..
Back then I always had the backdoor tendenacy to block people out when they got too close.. I was very selective to people I spoke with..
little things got me on edge, like being stared at.. or some cute girl yawning in class every 3 minutes. only a few people I can recall where ever brave enough to confront me ask me what was wrong.. most people that tried to talk to me.. I just gave them the wall litterally.. always into some kind of technology..
Today I am more relaxed I talk with anyone basically that has the time to talk.. I am not all that much selective then I was in terms of talking with people.. I still mess with Tech as much as I did back then.. except it is more productive now then it was..
I wish I was more open back then... I think things might have been different to today...
Yes I am single and the only children I have are the computers I built and they have girl names... LOL...
Far as really meeting someone real and true is like winning the 200 Million powerball that is up for grabs currently.. I am getting to that age already that it is not really all the worth trying much longer..
I think people would be surprised to know that I am a musher. As in sled dogs... I think most would have expected me to get into teaching or something art related... but instead I went with freezing my everything. Moving to Alaska and eventually to run in the Iditarod. In fact I don't think to many people remember me in high school... thankfully..lol as those were not my finest years. ~~~Noelle

People would probably be shocked that I'm not knocked up w/ four other kids around me, married, and religious!!
Instead, I went to college in the midwest, left church and now work in Finance (which wouldn't be a suprise).
