Yes, Mr. H was and is still my mentor. His love for english Lit and all things creative in writing is what keeps me writing to this day. Of course, my writing is a little more "strange" than he would like . . . But he was awesome. Always kept me interested.
Re: Mr. Hallbauer
That is cool and all...you WERE NEVER IN HIS CLASS THOUGH... he always asked me "Miss Piccirillo you seem to hang around this man John Cahoon do you know where he may be?????" I missed you in that class
I hated him...arrogant and too much affect in everything he did and said
Re: Mr. Hallbauer
Mr. Hallbauer was awesome. He was definitely my favorite English teacher.
I loved his stories, like the brain in the bucket story. Remember his favorite shoe polish??
Re: Mr. Hallbauer
There's a group of MHS students that will remember this quote from Mr. Hallbauer:
"Orgasm, Becky! Orgasm!"
Good times, good times. (btw, this was in reference to a poem we were talking about in class---it's not some weird sex story or anything! I wouldn't want him to get in trouble!)
Re: Mr. Hallbauer
Mr. Hallbauer retired last year. I was in his Block 7 English class during his last year...I live right near him and he was telling me last week that he fell down a flight of stairs and hurt himself real bad (ugly bone injuries, and his arm had a really bloody cut).
He was my favorite teacher, and yes, he continued to tell the brain in the bucket story up until his final year of teaching. Although he's retired, he does frequently visit and has subbed for several English classes.
Get well soon, Mr. Hallbauer!
Re: Mr. Hallbauer
I'm a relic from way back in 1990, and Mr. Hallbauer rocked even then. He was funny (or as he'd say "droll"), smart, and gave me a love for Charles Dickens that continues to this day.
Re: Mr. Hallbauer
By far Mr. Hallbauer takes the cake for best high school English teacher. He had the incredible ability to pull upon each student's strengths and help them overcome their weaknesses.
Not a single week goes by without me remembering him calling either myself or someone in my class a "Dolt" or "Lummox".
It is a shame that someone of his great ability is not working with young minds day after day!
Re: Mr. Hallbauer
One thing I remember about Mr. Hallbauer is he had an extremely shiny forhead which Lynn Denis and I used to comment on frequently.
I don't think he liked us very much...the smallest thing would piss him off like if we told someone what page we were on in the textbook....he'd snap.
Was it his wife that used to scream out near my locker, "M-eeeeeezz! Get your M-eeeeeez!" (M&M's)??????????
Re: Mr. Hallbauer
Oh my GOD Holly, you just gave me the biggest high school flashback! I can hear her in my head doing that...those freakin peanut M&Ms...where did the M&M money go? :-k
