I know she annoyed a lot of students, but I always wanted to learn French so I picked it up 1st and 2nd year. Barring from socializing too often in class with Ed Orsini and Emily Brown among others, I did my work and actually learned French. I think this is why I never had any real conflicts with her.
I had her both years.
I did pretty well in this class. 12 years later I am in Paris on business/vacation and it's unreal how much I still remember from her class.
I am here from 9/26 to 10/2 and I was able to communicate about 75% of everything I have needed in French from what I learned in class and a little I picked up while being here. I traveled using only public transportation (metro), and asked and answered everything I could in French. Once you learn the subway system, you can get everywhere you need to go. It is similar to Boston in terms of organizations and color coding, but it is far superior and more effective. It reminds me of New York's subway system, but it seemed a lot less complicated than NY.
Furthermore, I have even given directions to other tourists in French.
This is a great city. It ranks easily in my top ten from all the cities I have been. The best part was that I got to share this with Haydee and Nicolette. Since Nicolette is only 1, she will not likely remember any of this, which just gives me an excuse to come back with them another time.
I leave tomorrow and it will be sad.
